Gemstones and precious metals have been prized for tens of thousands of years,
if not more! On top of their obvious value and rarity, they have been subject to
many other beliefs about their mystical and magical properties, and have been
given as gifts to people depending on . Here, we present three of the most common tables of stones
and gifts for celebrations; wedding anniversaries, birth-stones, and zodiac stones.
Wedding Anniversaries
The common gifts for the major wedding anniversaries are well known, including Sterling Silver for 25 years,
Gold for 50 and Diamonds for the 60th Diamond Jubilee, but there are traditional and modern
themes for many other anniversaries too, especially for the early years. We've provided a table
that shows the gemstones, traditional themes, modern themes and flowers associated with anniversaries
ranging from the first to the hundredth.

Birthstones
Birthstones have been used throughout history, so far back in fact that it's difficult to place their earliest origins.
The stones used have varied wildly through cultures and historical periods, but in 1912, the American National
Association of Jewelers set down and adopted an 'official' list of accepted Birth Stones that they used in place of the
more traditional birth stones of the day. What we've compiled here is a list both of the common traditional birthstones,
and an accepted set of main and alternative stones from the Association of Jewelers.

Zodiac Stones
Unlike the Birthstones, the stones of the Zodiac are constantly under discussion, and many people disagree
about which stones are the most powerful or effective for any given sign of the Zodiac. Rather than try to argue
the point, we've simply compiled a list of the most commonly-accepted stones for each of the Zodiac signs, along
with some of the other stones that we've seen associated with each; it's usually recommended, though, that people
should try to find the stone that has the best resonance for them, and this list is only a starting point.

Throughout history, people have believed that precious and semi-precious gemstones possessed
mystical qualities. Lapis Lazuli's bright blue color made people believe it was magical and
a protection against evil. The shimmering, shifting surface of Tiger's Eye made Romans believe
it to be an all-seeing eye, while even today, people believe that Rose Quartz can grant spiritual
peace and enhance love, both for other people and for yourself!
