Tracey's design for this hairstick focuses on a swirling black and white lampwork glass lentil bead. Lampwork glass beads are amongst the finest hand-crafted beads available - each individual bead is the work of a craftsman or craftswoman, working with careful heat to produce the beautiful patterns that make them so distinctive and appealing. This particular lampwork glass bead also features delicate red ribbons running amongst the swirling patterns.
To complement the focal design, Tracey stayed with the black and white theme, selecting Black Onyx as a match for the base color, and setting it with Snow Quartz for the dangles. Modern day Crystal healers believe that Onyx will help to ease fear, worry and other overwhelming emotions, and even soothe or resolve conflicts in relationships, while Quartz is believed to cool the mind and give the wearer mental clarity, making this a very cooling combination of gemstones. The dangles were set below a sterling silver star-form chandelier, and the entire design was finished with sterling silver accents.
To finish the color theme, for the stick itself we chose a piece of Charcoal Silvertone Dymondwood that features some strong flashes of white. Dymondwood is made from layered hardwood that has been impregnated with dyes and resin, then put under extreme pressure to densify and bond the material. The end result is a dense, durable material whose waterproof quality makes it absolutely ideal for wet or damp bunning. Rob hand-turned the hairstick, which was polished to a gleaming finish. The stick's effective length is four and one-quarter inches, and the entire design measures in at six inches.
