For this Winter-themed hairstick, Tracey selected a single foil-lined blue Murano Glass bead as the focus. Made of a beautiful blue glass, this Murano bead has silver foil rolled into its internal structure. The end result is a bead that possesses a brightness quite unlike that of normal blue glass beads, and the combination of silver and blue glass results in a bright, pale blue reflective quality that encapsulates the icy beauty of Winter.
To complement the focal Murano bead, she selected Ice Flake Quartz, along with beautiful sterling-silver set Cubic Zirconia rondelles. Both Ice Flake Quartz and Cubic Zirconia are clear gemstones, reminiscent of Winter ice, and both possess a remarkable prismatic quality; Ice Flake Quarts splits the light passing through, while the reflective fire of Cubic Zirconia rivals that of high quality Diamonds. To complete the design, she selected a sterling silver snowflake charm, and set the entire piece with sterling silver accents.
For the hairstick itself, we selected a single, pale piece of Maple. A beautiful hardwood native to the United States, Maple's soft grain and color allows the delicate jewelled design to take center stage. Rob hand-turned the hairstick, which was finished with a water-resistant semi-gloss coating, making this piece ideal for wet or damp bunning. The effective length of the hairstick is six and five-eighth inches, while the total length of the piece is eight and three-quarter inches.
