For the focal gemstone of this piece, Tracey selected a glittering Ice Flake Quartz gemstone. A natural form of crystal-clear Quartz, Ice Flake Quartz has been exposed to extremes of heat and cold, giving it a wonderful crystalline structure that displays colorful flashes of prismatic fire as light passes through.
To complement the focal stone, she selected Black Onyx and Ice Flake Quartz. The modern alternative birthstone for February and the primary Zodiac stone of Leo, Onyx has been a popular gemstone for thousands of years. Ancient Romans carved figures of heroes and Gods in this stone, believing that it would give them the courage of the figure they had carved, while modern Crystal healers believe that Onyx will help to ease fear, worry and other overwhelming emotions, and even soothe or resolve conflicts in relationships! To complete the design, Tracey selected an elegant, single-sided sterling silver Celtic knotwork cross, and set the entire design with sterling silver accents.
For the hairstick itself, we selected a wonderful piece of Gabon Ebony. Originating in Africa, this hardwood is famous both for its wonderfully dark color and its remarkable density, and the finished result is a strong, smooth, beautiful hairstick. Rob hand-turned the hairstick, which was finished with a glossy water-resistant coating, making this piece ideal for wet or damp bunning. The effective length of the hairstick is five and seven-eighth inches, and the entire design measures in with a length of eight inches.
