For the focus of this piece, Tracey selected a single Hematite semi-precious gemstone. Hematite's name comes from the Latin for Blood Stone, and mineral and crystal healers believe that it has powers to cleanse the blood and heal blood-related illnesses. A rich gemstone, its dark beauty is accented wonderfully by the brightness of the sterling silver.
To complement the focal gemstone, she selected several Hematite stones for the dangles, setting them with a beautiful sterling silver Celtic knotwork bead. The entire design was then set and finished with sterling silver accents.
For the hairstick itself, we selected a single piece of bloodwood. An exotic wood native to South America, Bloodwood is dense and durable, making it ideal for hairsticks, and its vibrant, deep red color offers a beautiful complement to the deep gunmetal shades of the Hematite. The hairstick was hand-turned by Rob, then finished with a water-resistant semi-gloss coating, making this hairstick ideal for wet or damp bunning. The stick has an effective length of five and one-eighth inches, and the entire piece measures in with a length of six and seven-eighth inches.
