For the focus of this design, Tracey selected a single 16mm Ice Flake Quartz bead. A natural form of crystal-clear Quartz, Ice Flake Quartz has been exposed to extremes of heat and cold, giving it a wonderful crystalline structure that displays colorful flashes of prismatic fire as light passes through. This particular gemstone features a number of striking fracture walls that capture the light beautifully.
To complement the focal stone, Tracey chose a combination of natural Quartz Crystal cones and fine, red Swarovski crystal, incorporating a beautiful Swarovski Crystal butterfly as part of the main design. The design was all set and finished with 14-karat gold filled accents. Gold-filled jewelry has a substantial outer layer of gold, which can be as much as 50,000 to 100,000 times as thick as modern gold plated jewelry. Because of this, gold-filled jewelry will resist tarnishing, and can be cleaned in the same way you would clean other gold jewelry. Cared for properly, gold-filled jewelry will last a lifetime.
For the hairstick itself, we selected a beautiful, rich piece of Cocobolo. A dense hardwood originating in Central America, Cocobolo's varying color and grain often yields beautiful results, and the combination of strength and beauty makes Cocobolo a wonderful choice for hairsticks. Rob hand-turned this hairstick, which was finished with a water-resistant satin coating, making this piece ideal for wet or damp bunning. The effective length of the hairstick is five inches, and with the design set in place, the entire piece measures in with a length of seven and three-eighth inches.
