For the focus of this design, Tracey chose a wonderful 14mm Tiger's Eye gemstone. Tiger's Eye is a truly beautiful stone that displayes a gleaming, golden chatoyancy throughout, shimmering and shifting as the light plays across the stone's surface. The appearance is so remarkable that the Romans believed it to be an all-seeing eye that would protect them when they travelled, and would wear amulets crafted from it.
To complement the focal gemstone, she selected Golden Quartz and Tiger's Eye. Golden Quartz, also referred to by the trade name of Golden Jade, is a rich gemstone whose color is a wonderful complement for the golden banding of the Tiger's Eye. To complete the design, Tracey added an elegant, Celtic-inspired sterling silver bead to the dangle, and set the entire design with sterling silver accents.
For the stick itself, we selected a single piece of Bocote. A strong hardwood from Central and South America, Bocote's banded color makes it a wonderful complement for the black and gold banding of the Tiger's Eye. Rob hand-turned the hairstick, which was finished with a water-resistant satin coating, making it ideal for wet or damp bunning. The effective length of the hairstick is four and seven-eighth inches, and the entire piece measures in with a length of six and five-eighth inches.
