For the focus of this piece, Tracey selected an absolutely beautiful Tiger's Eye gemstone. Tiger's Eye is one of the most remarkable gemstones in the world, displaying a property called chatoyancy, meaning that the surface shimmers and seems to shift as the light plays across it. The shimmering gold surface of Tiger's Eye led to many beliefs about the gemstone possessing magical powers, and the Romans - who believed the stone was an all-seeing eye - wore Tiger's Eye as a protective amulet, believing that it would shield them from harm when they travelled. The stone is set on top of a hand-made hammered sterling silver stem, and the design is finished with sterling silver accents.
For the hairstick itself, we selected a piece of cherrywood. A hardwood native to the United States, this piece has deepened to a wonderful, golden color that matches perfectly with the gold of the Tiger's Eye. Rob hand-turned the hairstick, which was finished with a water-resistant satin coating, making this hairstick ideal for wet or damp bunning. The hairstick's effective length is six and one quarter inches, and the entire piece measures in with a length of seven and seven-eighth inches.
